Keeping or Training Animals for Exhibition

The Animal Welfare (Licensing of Activities Involving Animals) (England) Regulations 2018 require that anyone keeping or training animals for exhibition must be licenced by the local authority.

The Regulations cover the use of animals exhibited for entertainment or educational purposes.  This includes mobile animal exhibits that visit schools, weddings, private parties, fairs and other events where an audience is present, pony parties where the ponies are not ridden, exhibiting animals via electronic media and domestic animals exhibited in a circus.

The Government's statutory guidance for keeping or training animals for exhibition sets out who does and does not require a licence, as well as the licencing conditions that will apply.  All licence conditions must be complied before a new licence can be granted.

Anyone who holds a licence to keep or train animals for exhibition in the Tendring area, but also exhibits in another local authority area, needs to register with that other authority.

Applications for a licence to keep or train animals for exhibition can be made using the form below.  Completed forms should be sent to the address at the bottom of this page.
