Pride of Tendring Awards celebrates community heroes

Community heroes from across Tendring have been recognised with a special ceremony celebrating the 2024 Pride of Tendring Awards.

People from a number of organisations, and individuals, from throughout the district received their accolades at the glittering ceremony held in Clacton’s Princes Theatre last week (Friday, 16 February).

The annual event, now in its 12th year, is organised by Tendring District Council (TDC) to shine a spotlight on some of those who work hard to support their community.

The recipients were all nominated by Tendring District Councillors to ensure individuals and organisations in every community across the district could be recognised for their efforts.

Gary Scott, TDC Chairman, said the 17 recipients of awards this year were all extremely worthy of the Pride of Tendring accolade.

“Each and every winner totally deserves this recognition, which is but a small thank you for a lot of hard work in our community – often a lifetime of dedication to the place in which they live,” Cllr Scott said.

“They all make a very real difference to people’s lives, from volunteer litter picking to organising events which tackle loneliness and isolation, and it’s people like these which make me so proud and humble to have the privilege of representing Tendring.

“I was honoured to meet the Pride of Tendring winners, and I hope that everyone is inspired, as I have been, to follow the fine example they set us all.”

The ceremony for the winners included entertainment from members of the Princes Theatre Youth Group, as well as singing by Jamie Tims and piano music from Amy Henshaw.

The Master of Ceremonies for the evening was Alan Goggin, a former TDC Chairman.

The event would not have been possible without the sponsorship of local businesses. This year these were: Latimer, RWE Offshore Wind, Lamb and Co., The Wright Impression, Pickering Interfaces Ltd, and Lanswood & Co.

Cllr Scott’s chosen charities this year are Community Voluntary Services Tendring (CVST) and The Alresford School Swimming Pool.
