At this evening’s full council meeting Mark Stephenson was elected by the councillors to be Leader for the next four years.

Cllr Stephenson appointed Cllr Ivan Henderson as his Deputy Leader, and unveiled the new Cabinet as:

• Cllr Mark Stephenson, Leader, and portfolio for Finance and Governance

• Cllr Ivan Henderson, Deputy Leader, and portfolio for Economic Growth, Regeneration and Tourism

• Cllr Andy Baker, portfolio holder for Housing and Planning

• Cllr Mick Barry, portfolio holder for Leisure and Public Realm

• Cllr Gina Placey, portfolio holder for Partnerships

Outgoing council Chairman Peter Harris also handed over the chain of office to newly-elected chairman Cllr Gary Scott, who was also voted in by councillors during the meeting. Cllr Dan Casey was elected as deputy chairman.

Cllr Harris thanked council members for his support during his term of office, and gave his best wishes to the new chairman as he took up the role.

The chairman not only oversees full council meetings, but is also the civic lead – representing Tendring at numerous events within the district and elsewhere.
