The official list of people standing for election to Tendring District Council (TDC) and town and parish councils in the area has been published after the nominations deadline passed yesterday (Tuesday, 4 April).

All 32 wards for TDC are being contested, with a total of 189 candidates vying for 48 seats come polling day on Thursday, 4 May.

In addition to the district council elections, four of the five wards in Harwich Town Council and all six wards of Frinton and Walton Town Council, along with all seats on Brightlingsea Town Council, are being contested. Alresford, Bradfield and Weeley parish councils will also be contested.

The remaining parish and town council elections will not be contested, with just enough or fewer candidates than seats available. Those candidates are therefore elected without the need for a poll on 4 May.

The official list of those standing for each district ward, and town and parish councils, can be found online at www.tendringdc.gov.uk/elections

People are being reminded they only have a few days left to register to vote, if they are not already, in order to be able to vote on 4 May.

People must be registered by Monday, 17 April, to be eligible to vote in local elections. To sign up, visit www.gov.uk/register-to-vote or call the TDC Electoral Services team on 01255 686575.

Postal vote applications must be made by Tuesday, 18 April, and proxy vote applications by Tuesday, 25 April.

Electors are being reminded that to vote in a polling station this year they will require a form of photo ID from a list set out by government, and in Tendring voters are being encouraged to join Find it Friday on 21 April to dig out their ID. The deadline to apply for a free Voter Authority Certificate – an alternative to having another form of acceptable photo ID – is 5pm on Tuesday, 25 April.

Ian Davidson, the Returning Officer, encouraged people to check the list of candidates and see who was standing in their area.

“We have a number of candidates standing in each ward, presenting voters with a choice when they cast their ballot, so why not check out the list for your ward now,” Mr Davidson said.

“If you’re not sure which ward you are in then check your poll card or use the online resources available.”
